Good Eatin': North Adams Weekly Farmer's Market

By Susan Bush
12:00AM / Wednesday, July 12, 2006

Fresh, in-season fruits, berries, vegetables, and more are offered at farmer's markets.
North Adams - Healthy eating is easier and more wallet-friendly during the summer months, when in-season fresh fruits and vegetables deliver nature's bounty within reach of harvesting hands.

Those who cultivate small backyard vegetable patches are welcome to join larger produce growers and sell their home-grown foods at the city's Farmer's Market.

A series of weekly markets begins on July 15 at 8 a.m. at the St. Anthony's municipal parking lot [across from the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art Marshall Street parking area]. The market is scheduled to close at 1 p.m..

North Adams Farmer's Market "Market Master" Everett Randall
Vendors from the Berkshire region and areas such as Nassau, N.Y. are expected to set up temporary booths at the market. Markets are scheduled to occur each Saturday through the summer and fall until the final weekend of October, weather-permitting.

The market is overseen by Market Master Everett Randall. Additional information about acquiring a market booth or other aspects of the farmer's market may contact Randall at 1-413-743-3111 or Rod Bunt at the Mayor's Office of Tourism at 413-664-6180.

There is a $2 per plot fee for booth set-up, and set-ups may also be arranged by arriving at the market site by 7:30 a.m. on market morning.

This weekend's market is expected to offer a selection vegetables, fruits, flowers, herbs, and additional sundries. Randall has advised those who are interested in purchasing fresh items to arrive early for prime selection.
